Finally the work is done and it’s time to play!!!
Months in the making rising from the The Albatross. I was able to re-use the AT case that I had performed rust removal and repainted. I was also able to use most of the ISA cards in this Little Bird after cleaning this board. To recap that history; This Asus ISA-486SV2 board came from a system being discarded because it didn’t work. I had to try to save it!
That began the process of removing everything from the board that was meant to come off. That included the BIOS chip and cut the Varta battery off to clean the green residue from a long forgotten spill. Not sure why no one ever tried to save it before.
Thus began the scrub with toothbrush and apple cider vinegar, distilled water, isopropyl alcohol and long dry time.
Guess what. IT WORKED!
We have a functional 486DX2-66 Computer doing computer things again with a Conner 340 megabyte hard drive and 6x cd-rom and Opti soundcard
Windows 386 (2.1) running atop DOS 6.22 |
Notepad humble past on Windows 386 |
Also installed Windows 3.11 |
Many good times are on the way with the Little Bird. Behold, it is finished!
